I’ve been reading some completely ridiculous shit on various blogs lately that made me rethink how misguided certain Greek -meaning nationals- Polytheists are. Turns out, foreigners are just as misguided. I guess that’s good because it helps me cast off this impression I’ve had that we’re especially bad when it comes to attaching completely irrational crap to the Greek Religion. Nope, actually we’re not. But I wasn’t so negatively surprised by polytheists this time. It was witches.

As it turns out, there’s a call for all magic users to join a collaborative effort to curse Boko Haram. Boko Haram is evil and therefore it’s a good idea, right? Well, no I’m not going to go along with the Western notion of good -us- versus evil -them-. The West has fuckall to do with good. In this case, Boko Haram is definitely a vile, criminal, bloodthirsty and hateful fucking group that needs to cease to exist. And the West has a long history of collaborating with criminals like them whenever it suits our interests.

I can’t say I’m surprised that the SJW tumblr crowd turned witchy. In that big melting pot of superficial identities that are in constant flux called tumblr, this crossbreeding was bound to happen. I don’t know if I shouldn’t be surprised that the SJWitches naively -to put it really politely- explicitly align themselves with US foreign policy. I mean, for someone who’s supposedly left-leaning politically -remember what I said about superficial identities- they’d realise how problematic that stance is, even when the target is actually made up of misanthropic criminals. But let’s skip the imperialist implications of this shit which obviously never occurred to the people who brainstormed this. To quote the article.

In early January, Chiefs from the Eastern regions of Cameroon requested permission to use Witchcraft against the terrorist group Boko Haram. The news came through a tweet by respected investigative journalist and Chief Bisong Etahoben on Feb. 1. Shortly after, President Paul Biya responded back welcoming the assistance and use of Witchcraft in the fight to protect the nation and its people.

So basically, indigenous magicians offered to wage a magical war against Boko Haram and the president accepted, partly because he believes in magic which isn’t surprising for sub-Saharan Africa, and partly because regardless of whether he believes in it or not, Boko Haram certainly does and having an unknown number of mages cursing your enemy is excellent psychological warfare.

But I’m afraid that the key point here is that these are local, indigenous practitioners and the use of the word witch doesn’t have the same meaning in Africa that it does in the Western World. These people aren’t Wiccans. These people are folk magicians of usually considerable power and knowing the magical practices of the enemy, they know what they’re doing and what they’re up against.

Hold on, what magical practices of the enemy? But Boko Haram is against magic.

Well, we’ll get to that in a moment. Continuing.

In the wake of the most recent Boko Haram attacks on a group of Nigerian children, several U.S. Witches have now joined the efforts to use Witchcraft to help stop this terrorist group. Calling themselves the Social Justice Witches Working, these women are asking Witches and other magical workers from around the world to come together on Feb. 13 to stop the violence perpetrated by the Nigerian-based terrorist organization.

US witches. I’m Jack’s utter lack of surprise.

One of the organizers, Boneweaver, more commonly known as Pamela V Jones, told The Wild Hunt, “There was little to no coverage of the children being burnt. The people in Nigeria have been forgotten. The Dead are being forgotten. We are heavy on working with the Beloved Dead, and heavy hearted about the continued slaughtering of innocents while the world turns away, while this country focused on the Super Bowl in the media.”

Which is a pretty fine statement. Although I’m not sure what heavy on working with the Beloved Dead is supposed to mean there. That US citizens performing rituals at home are basically providing post-death humanitarian aid? Because Africans in particular have no rites and traditions to aid their dead and they need US spiritual help. Alright.

Boneweaver is a “a Reclaiming and Feri initiated Witch of the Victor Anderson path through the Starhawk line. [She is] a member of Spiralheart, the mid-Atlantic Reclaiming cell.” She lives in the Pittsburgh area where she and a friend teach and have recently started Reclaiming Pittsburgh. Boneweaver said, “I didn’t realize there was a Boko Haram Witchcraft call [from Cameroon], though I am not surprised there is one. A friend here on FB, after we’d participated in a similar working last week against Roosh, the Return of the Kings guy who was pro-rape, asked were we […] ready to do one against Boko Haram.”

And this is where the whole thing started to become worrying. I mean okay, I get that Boneweaver is a radfem into magic, being Reclaiming Feri spells that out in bright neon letters. But there was already collective hexing against that idiot, Roosh? Hold on a second. Roosh V. is basically a media troll that feeds off controversy to drive his pick-up artist business. He’s an asshole surely but not a criminal. The guy’s also a bloody Gemini and those people are the masters of the troll craft. They basically have an invisible second head for the express purpose of trolling and contradicting everything that their visible head says. You can’t take their statements seriously. They don’t take them seriously either. But you took Roosh’s bullshit seriously enough to hex him?

I’m definitely not one of Roosh’s advocates, I’ll state that loudly for anyone who might be braindead enough to accuse me of something like that. But this shit here creates a dangerous precedent in which the displeasing opinions of someone might be reason for collective magical attack. Have you people gone completely off the rails? Do you know what freedom of speech is? It’s the freedom for people to say things that upset you without interference. Even bloody magical interference. Just because it’s not illegal to curse someone, doesn’t mean that it’s alright. In fact, it’s especially morally repugnant if you’re resorting to magical means because you won’t get into trouble with the law. The implication is that if you could get away with physical attack, you’d have no moral qualms about it. Really damn unscrupulous. And while in general, I’m on your side, I find these tactics fucking detestable enough to distance myself a lot from you all. What the hell happened to heated dialogue with the opponents? When did this shit with cursing the opposition start? Is this the beginning of the end for civil discourse?

It kind of reminds me of /b raids, 4chan for you outsiders. Woo hoo magical raids? Magic is not a bloody toy. Magic wars are a serious thing and besides the effect they can have, they are also putting a stain on the practice in general. Put the notion of rampant unknown groups collectively hexing people for what they say into the collective imagination and, well, especially in the American cultural framework which is still rife with Christian fundamentalism, you’re basically cooking up mass panics and hysterias. And you people over there have an especially spotty history with those.

What’s that? Can’t happen again? Really? Remember the Satanic Ritual Abuse scandal in the 1980s? Which was basically nothing more than an urban myth based on goading toddlers to imagine stuff? The same one which ended up fuelling a massive cultural hysteria on supposed undercover satanists that loomed everywhere, from kindergartens to supposedly subliminal messages in rock music. Yeah those times were fun. The religious -far- right cleverly exploited the whole thing to come out of the woodwork with the benevolent assistance of people like the concerned Democrat hag Tipper Gore and her Parents Music Resource Center who basically managed to institute the softcore censorship of potentially harmful music.

So do you think that going around tossing curses at whoever disagrees with you and voluntarily playing up the image of the black witch is unlikely to come back and bite you and everyone else who uses magic in the ass? But besides all the negative repercussions that a cultural hysteria against real black magic might have on everything magical, divinatory and pagan, I’m pretty concerned about the hysteria eventually coming back to my country, which happens really often. The 1980s SRA hysteria reached Greece by the early 1990s in two forms. The first form was the usual TV shows playing up the unknown dangers to children lurking in things like AD&D, metal and rock music of all kinds, toys, anything looking slightly off and of course the importance of going to -Christian- church to be spared of the dangers. The religious right wing and the local Christian fundamentalists were delighted.

The other form that reached Greece however was actually evil. With so much exposure to satanism as the opposing force to Christianity and all the connotations of magical power and I don’t know, let’s call it dark imagery, it was natural that certain dark-minded people were drawn to it instead of being averted. So besides getting the place full of black magicians and satanists for about a decade, which I don’t personally find bad, we also got a particular group of psychos who murdered at least two girls in human sacrifices. Which is beyond bloody bad. Search for the Pallini Satanists if you want to learn more because I’m not about to link to any of that crap. But let’s continue with the article.

Social Justice Witches Working (SJWW) has planned this action for Feb. 13 and invites people from around the world to join. Boneweaver added that this will not be the last planned event for the new activist group. The name itself is meant to be very general so that it can be applied to any future actions and calls for global magic. When ask if there is anything else planned now, she said not specifically. However, Boneweaver did say that she “wouldn’t rule out a public [ritual against Daesh] in the future.” But this one was chosen specifically “because it has slipped from the media’s attention.”

Sure go ahead and attack Daesh, as long as you don’t start turning your attention to domestic targets in the form of some sort of magical PC police. Because that would be, eh, pretty fucking fascist.

Boneweaver’s post is actually pretty interesting because it contains the details of the attack which will illustrate something very clearly but before I continue with it, I’ll share some of my personal experiences because on some large level, I was of the same mind as these people many years ago.

As a teenager, belonging to both radical political and magickal groups, ended up bringing me into contact with people who also shared both interests. It was natural that the idea of using magick to accelerate, aid or cause a revolution would eventually come about. So, little me along with some other people spent some time designing a special formulation of chaos magick with the specific aim of causing a -violent- social revolution. Which was actually an idea floating about globally in chaos magick circles at the time, remnants of which can probably still be found online. I’m not really going to share any deep details because it was largely too left hand path for the average tastes, probably due to all of us proudly calling ourselves amoral which I’d love to think of as chaotic good but to be honest, it was closer to chaotic neutral and only on the best of days. Yes, I’ve changed a great deal since then, don’t worry.

To give one small example of what our design was like for anyone curious about guerilla chaos, think of a pretty statue outside the cancer ward of a random hospital. Imagine how that statue is charged by being looked at by all the dying patients and their relatives and then imagine what you can do with the duality of a symbol of both death-despair and hope. Run with the idea of using images of the statue as memes and inserting them among symbols of political opponents for a while.

In any case, we eventually stumbled onto something that our stupid teenage brains hadn’t accounted for, you know, amidst all the fervor of being radicals and hotshot chaos magickians. There was no fucking vacuum to operate in. Anywhere. What do I mean by that? The world has had a magical aspect to it long before we were born and long before we started thinking of magical ways to interact with those aspects. Most of our fucking ideas are not original and even if they haven’t been published, at least someone has thought of them before sometime in history and especially on a subject as old as magic.

Practically for our case it meant that not only there were already pretty old groups and lodges of people actively mixing magic and politics on a level that went really beyond our capabilities but also, there were already existent entities created by social processes that were only semi-conscious, deranged and impossible to control. The kind of entities that are fed by hope, tears, the collective nightmares of modern society and very frequently, actual human blood. Sure, those entities tend to dissolve or get absorbed by other, far older monsters that lurk among us but that doesn’t mean that your stain of a thoughtform has any chance of meaningfully influencing those monstrosities which as a rule, you shouldn’t be interacting with for any reason other than to banish them. Unless you work incredibly hard to produce a complete magical framework that allows you to have the conceptual equivalents of words and names of power to control them which I don’t think is either easily or at all possible.

But fuck the entities. The human operators are just as dangerous. The average politician being so publicly exposed, usually makes use of all sorts of people including astrologers, mages, carries amulets and has magical taslimans made. The high-powered politician can find larger groups to help him, with or even without his knowledge. I’m not talking about any conspiracy theory here. People have been using magic in politics for thousands of years and they never really stopped. There isn’t one specific clique that controls the world but the people who are in power do accept any help they can get. It’s really damn natural.

You don’t really need to know names and secrets to understand that. We never learned any names and secrets either. But the use of logos, ceremony, specific dates, posters. All that shit has specific intent that’s pretty obvious to any magician. You can recognise the workings of a fellow mage if you have an eye for it, and the ones who do these things are really good and I imagine, handsomely paid. So, we decided to drop the project instead of getting caught up in really deep waters and I really have zero regrets for that decision.

The moral teaching here is that if you think you’re going to do something new with magic, chances are that it has already been thought of, experimented with, tested and worked against to a much higher level than you can imagine. That’s not a concrete rule and there’s certainly space for innovation, provided you have good historical knowledge of what came before so you can avoid re-inventing the wheel. I can’t say that most of these witches even have good knowledge of the theoretical developments of chaos magick in the last twenty years.

Same goes for magic wars. Magic was a large part of World War II actually. I don’t know about this latest theory regarding an organisation created by Churchil called The Watch to fight against Nazi black magicians. The vast majority of published work on modern war magic and magic wars, especially related to WWII is rife with sensationalism, inaccuracies and myths. But the evidence that the Nazis did practice war magic is indisputable. The Thelemites I knew loved to tell tales of Crowley’s and Fortune’s involvement in that magic war and how it might have caused the deaths of both.

While Crowley’s involvement is strongly disputed and quite possibly complete bullshit, Dion Fortune’s involvement is wholly true. But here’s the thing. Fortune, at least not officially and I doubt she even did that unofficially, did not go full curse and hex-mode against the 3rd Reich and while I don’t really ascribe to any of her theosophically-influenced doctrine, I can’t say that she didn’t know what she was doing. Say what you will about Dion Fortune but she knew her ceremonial magick, okay? And instead of breaking her face against the black magicians of the 3rd Reich, she chose to do a positive working to support the good side.

Our neo-magical legends have it that getting exhausted by the working was what led to her early death from leukaemia in 1946. I can’t really say how accurate that is but if it is, and even Dion Fortune couldn’t escape a magical war unharmed, what exactly gives any of these Wiccan witches the idea that they will? Is it arrogance, naivety or an even more dangerous combination of both?

But still, why would there be any danger attacking Boko Haram? The Nazis were into the occult, but they aren’t.

Oh I’ll get to that too but I’m saving it for last. For now I want to go a bit into Boneweaver’s actual post.

Invite your friends who would like to support this effort! This event is public. Details are below on the timing and bones of the working. I’ve added a poem I’m going to use (use as desired). I’ll be dressing candles with an herb and oil blend particular to the cause. I personally will be invoking Medusa’s unflinching gaze into the mix as i am working with Her this year. Add your comments, post your outlines, run with it!

Okay, I’m already annoyed. Did she just say that she’s working with an evil and dead monster? Yes, she did. I feel like somebody in your stereotypical Christian congregation, minding my own business and praying to buddy Jesus when all of a sudden, some woman comes in all giddy and says “Oh I’ve been praying to archdemon Asmodeus all week. Isn’t that awesome? You what? I mean, what the hell. Isn’t Hecate edgy and dark enough any more for you people that you now turn to evil monsters? There’s absolutely no redeeming qualities about the Medusa, Athena killed her and even by that fact alone, it makes Medusa unredeemable. Algol, the red star in the constellation of Perseus which stands for the Medusa’s eye, is considered one of the most evil and unlucky stars in the sky. What the hell is next? Working with Titans? Harpies? The Scylla?

I’m getting really, really tired of this cultural imposition of these re-interpretations on my culture. If you’re going to read this Boneweaver, let’s have a chat about cultural appropriation because you intentionally put yourself in a position of complete opposition to the beliefs of my ancestors and I’d like to see what sort of justification you think you have for that. Just like you can’t turn Zeus into an evil deity, you can’t turn the damn monsters into anything that you can align yourself with.

BEST UPCOMING WORKING VS. BOKO HARAM BASED ON FOUNDER’S BIRTH: I’m going to call it Saturday, Feb 13, after the moon has gone void of course (look up your local time), during a planetary hour of Saturn (look up local time). The moon is waxing, we can’t help that, but she’s void of course and her last aspect before that is a bad one, so she won’t give any succor to the enemy. Saturday is Saturn’s and working in Saturn’s hour will give it extra oomph: as the founder’s Saturn (great malefic) is in his eighth house (the house of death), we like the reminder of that bit of harrowing doom in the chart. Mars is in Scorpio; invite him to invite more snakes and stingy bugs to the party.

If I was going to maintain any belief that Boneweaver had any credibility in magic after the Medusa statement, I just lost it now. And no, I’m not misunderstanding this. She really did advice people to cast the curse while the moon is void of course.

Please note that you will have to choose between the Void of Course Moon and having Saturn in his planetary hour. If the VoC is at a time you can manage, that’s best, because Saturn will still rule the day. However, if you can’t hit the VoC, the next best option is a planetary hour of Saturn, so as to maximize his impact. Make sure in that case to avoid using anything you regard as “lunar,” because once the Moon is in Taurus she will be much too nice for what we are doing.

Err. Taurus is too nice for curses? Yeah, I suppose the energy of Taurus doesn’t have a dark aspect. In fact, the Moon in Taurus would have been perfect for a curse against a militant organisation, giving the curse the shape of a giant jackboot stomping on them forever, you know, because two out of the three main Axis leaders did a pretty good job of just that for a number of years among all the other dictators and mass murderers I put in there.

But I’m just joking with all this. The major problem is elsewhere. Boneweaver, I’ll be completely honest with you and I’m going to say what I’m going to say for your benefit and not to mock you but, you’re pretty damn clueless about black magic. Let me explain.

Planetary hour and day in Saturn isn’t bad although Mars would have been better for attacks. But that’s not how this is done. Planetary hours and days are basically a weekly shortcut for when you can’t wait for a good astrological window. Mars in Scorpio is good yes but a void of course Moon is dead wrong. Dead fucking wrong.

That concept comes from horary astrology and it’s only relatively recently that it’s being applied to spell casting. And the common wisdom about it is that just as in horary astrology it indicates unfocused energy with zero results, the same goes for spellcasting. You shouldn’t cast anything while the moon is void of course because either nothing will go as planned, nothing will happen or it will blow up in your face. It’s not a time for curses. Don’t believe me? Here’s what the Joy of Satan Ministries say about it: (all emphasis on all subsequent quotes added by me)

The important thing to know is if you begin a project on a void Moon, it more than likely won’t work out. Projects begun, papers signed, items purchased, spells Cast and nearly everything begun at this time has more than a tendency to go wrong. Projects begun during a void of course moon somehow never get finished or are prevented from reaching completion. Crimes committed during this time are rarely brought to justice.

and

Taking out a loan during this time though; chances are, you may never have to pay it back. This is the time the universe is full of loopholes. The rule of thumb is what is begun during this time is rarely completed. In many cases, this is a time to get away with things.

This is NOT a time to perform spells, as they will more than likely fail.

But alright, maybe Satanists don’t know their left hand path stuff but Wiccans do, right? Let’s see the general consensus that google is going to throw up at me. Number one, which seems to happily plagiarise a portion of the Joy of Satan Ministries website above:

The upshot of it all is that there are things that just don’t go well when the moon is void, and actually some things that turn out better. During a void Moon, you should not sign a contract, make plans, close a deal, or start a project. Basically anything which you want to have a concrete real-world result should not be started, signed, or sealed. If you do, these things will never get off the ground, never materialize, have to be redone, or have so many problems and setbacks as to be useless anyhow. False starts and errors abound and judgement is more fallible.

Next is someone who disagrees but I don’t think she’s got any credibility where black magic is concerned:

The sign and house that the Moon has gone Void of Course in points the way for magical work during this time and any work you do can yield long-term and lasting results!

Then a Wiccan site that repeats the commonly accepted wisdom again:

The Moon’s energy and influence is greatly reduced or corrupted, and it is not a good idea to work magick or start anything new and important. Any magick or projects begun at the Void of Course Moon may fall short or fail completely.  Avoid job interviews, signing agreements, buying a house, getting married, making important decisions, starting new relationships and channeling.

Next up a site called Cyberwitchcraft:

When the moon is Void of Course, magick just doesn’t work.  Again, we know this through observation.  Those who use the sky to determine when things should be done have learned over the centuries that moon VOC is a bad time to cast a spell.  At best, nothing happens, at worst, the spell goes off in an unexpected direction.

There are Witches, who will cast spells over days or weeks.  Some spells require this long casting time.  In these cases, it may be impossible to avoid working on a spell while the moon is VOC.  Moon VOC can last for as little as a few hours, and as long as a day or more.  It all depends on how far into the last sign, the last major conjunction happens.

You never want to start a spell while the moon is Void of Course.  That is just trouble waiting to happen.  If you choose to do a spell that takes several days, you will want to try to avoid working the actual spell during the time the moon is VOC if you can.  It is this difficulty and preparation that help make such a spell so powerful.  Not only are you focusing your Will and Intent over an extended time, but you are planning when the best times to work are, for each day of the spell.

Again, no spells on Moon VoC. What does a new-agey astrology site say?

Perhaps the scariest and most perturbing thing about the void of course moon, or why people tend to want to do as little as possible while it is happening is that it does seem to have an unpredictable effect both on real life events and on psychological matters. Depending what sign it is moving from and what sign it is moving into the effect of a void of course moon can be inconsistency, indecision, unreliability, delays, break downs, stalemates and the sudden disappearance of opportunity. This period of time can be a bit of a black hole in which answers seem to disappear entirely and all we are left with is strange questions.

There is one thing that the void of course moons is good for and that is for meditation, manifestation magic and finding solutions to problems. The reason that some astrologers believe this is that the void of course moons is a form of emptiness. It is a time when no aspects occur which is the ideal space psychologically form which a human being might be able to get some peace from the every day events that usual confuse and batter him with information. From this stillness springs the wisdom to know what to do next, so some astrologers will say that the void of course moon is a good time to marinate your ideas by brooding about them or pursue a path of creativity or healing.

More or less the same but with some added candy-floss. And a site focusing on the Goddess:

You will find that most astrologers counsel caution during a Void of Course Moon. They will say that decisions made during Void of Course turn out to be non-realistic, false starts abound, judgment may be affected to the detriment, plans stop and start and change. It is also said that a Void of Course Moon can bring out neurotic behavior (who?me?) and delay and frustration run rampant. Void of Course Moons have also affected historical events – only a few presidents have been inaugurated during a Void of Course – Lincoln, JFK, Nixon, Reagan, and Clinton which gives us two assassinations, an impeachment, an attempted assassination, and an almost impeachment. Reagan actually avoided making any speeches during a void of course moon – going so far as to delay them if they were scheduled. Contracts signed at this time may have to be changed later or may turn out null and void.

Things just are not grounded, centered, or predictable during a Void of Course Moon which in my mind is the perfect time for us to  get to know and work with Luna in all of Her naked glory. Ceremony or Meditation that is intensely focused on inner planes work and feminine issues are very powerful during the void.  Journeying, pathworking, and pursuits directed to creative mind expansion align us directly with Mother Moon as Herself.

Again, the same. What does Voxx, the world’s best psychic say?

Moon Magick: The wise witches out there who happen to know the art of Astrology can vouch for the wisdom of performing rituals when the Moon is favorably aspected. Therefore, it is best to avoid doing serious Magick during a time when the the Moon is VOC, (especially for acquiring things, or situations).

[…]

Effects of VOC: Traditionally, Astrologers have noticed that the VOC Moon brings currents of negative energies, such as of disruption and chaos. Any important issues decided upon or performed during the VOC time will fail or will no doubt have to be repeated.

What to Avoid During VOC: Avoid making important decisions or having your car (computer, etc) repaired during a VOC Moon. For spell-casting and ritual purposes, steer clear of the VOC Moon as the spell will not be effective–it is a waste of your time and energy.

Note: For Magicians & Ritualists: For Magickal Work and Ritual purposes, (Spells, etc.) it is best to avoid performing your Ritual during this time. Experienced will show that the intended desire of your work will not be satisfactory to you. However, if you are a Chaos magician, you will no doubt find this the perfect time for your Magickal purpose.

I imagine she makes an exception for chaotes because they probably don’t give a fuck about lunar aspects and phases. And what does Starfirecircle say, whatever that’s supposed to be:

Moon Void of Course: Never cast spells while the moon is void of course. The Moon is void of course during the time between making its last major aspect to a planet in one sign and its entry into the next sign. The duration of this period can be as little as a few seconds or more than two days. The exact moment the Moon enters the new sign ends the void of course period.

*Void of Course Effects*

During a void of course period individuals are less focused. Human judgment is not at its best and consequently decision making tends to suffer. In the void of course period one should avoid: initiating new activities; purchasing new items; contacts or meetings with important people; signing contracts. Business discussions are unlikely to be resolved and if matters don’t fall apart, they will be put off to another time.

However, one area of benefit is in spiritual pursuits. In doing meditation, one has no pull towards any particular planetary force and therefore is able to connect with other planes.

Let’s say that we have the moon phase, date, and time for our spell all worked out. The next step is to check on whether or not our target time is while the moon is void of course. If it is, back to the drawing board. If it isn’t, full speed ahead. Check your astrological almanac for void times.

I’m not done yet. Number nine in my google results was Astrologickal Magick by Estelle Davies up on google books. Page 78 says a lot and I’m not going to copy all of it by hand but here’s the meat:

Generally, if you want a working to have a tangible effect, do not start it when the Moon is void.

And one last site to complete the set:

This means of course that the Moon’s influence is either greatly reduced, or “corrupted” and using Moon Energy during this time is not recommended and can have some unexpected results.

So, with nine out of ten random pages in agreement plus the Satanists who usually know how to curse people better than the average witch, I believe it’s conclusive that asking people to cast a curse against Boko Haram during the Moon going void of course is a terrible idea. It’s really damn silly to think that a bad time to do magic can translate into using that time for bad magic. If that’s the rationale behind this and I’m not even going to guess at what made them decide on it or comment on the group-think effect of apparently no one mentioning this inconvenient but glaring fact yet.

Before I continue I’d like to state something. No matter how justified you think you are doing this, chanting we break you against someone is black magic. You’re not supporting troops, you’re cursing the enemy directly. And while I don’t really want to aid you get into a load of trouble for reasons I’ll mention later, I’ll give you some hints on how actual black magic is performed so you can do some research if you insist on doing this crap.

There are two main traditional ways. One is not by simply checking the seven astrological luminaries and finding a good time, that’s basically baby-magic nonsense. You need to find time windows to draw down specific malevolent stars, any evil fixed star, Behenian or not will do, several is better but far harder. I recommend giving the second volume of Agrippa’s Occult Philosophy a good and thorough read. You need to charge talismans with the star sigils to capture all the bad stuff and then link them to your target provided you have gathered all the necessary ingredients that you need. You can get the juicy specifics by yourselves.

The other method which might be easier for some is to summon an evil entity and send it against the target. You either need to make an agreement with it or compel it by use of divine names. Some Satanists prefer the first method, most Christian or Christian-friendly sorcerors prefer the later which is the most traditional and safe way. Instead of being an asshole and sending you looking blindly in medieval grimoires, you can find all that you need in A. E. Waite’s Book of Ceremonial Magic, also known as The Book of Black Magic and of Pacts. However I would still advise against performing serious black magic without extensive study first.

In any case, I don’t understand why you have to go all astromagical when you can simply burn a few herbs, chant a few curses hoodo-style and stick pins in poppets. That should be closer to your thing and it should be just as effective.

Besides the obvious problems that one of those spells might cause if they backfire, here’s one last specific thing that basically makes all of you a bunch of Western idiots. Both Islam and sub-Saharan Africa are rife with magic. Not your fluffy, Llewellyn kind of magic but the other kind, which you can’t learn through the internet and which doesn’t get published in books. Ever. Because they’re either entirely closed traditions to foreigners or it’s not even called magic even though it is.

There’s a kind of syncretic hoodoo-like folk magic in Greece -which you also cannot learn through books- that besides including things like graveyard dust, cursed oils and putting soap under someone’s stairs so that your target wastes away like the soap does, also includes recitations of Turkish texts that the practitioners don’t understand. Which I wager are Quranic verses. See where I’m getting? The Quran, just like the Bible, can be used both to defend against and to cast curses. Couple that with African folk magic that certain members of Boko Haram are bound to know and you’ve got a really fucking poisonous combination.

And no, they don’t need to be Sufis to practice any divine magic. Sufis are mystics. But every Muslim believes in jinns which are more or less something like mortal, invisible amoral demons. Which you can use for good and evil. For an intro to magical belief in the Muslim world, check this out:

To fully comprehend contemporary witch hunts and the prevalence of magical beliefs in the Muslim world, it is necessary to understand the concept of jinn. Jinn provide Islamic explanations for evil, illness, health, wealth, and position in society as well as all mundane and inexplicable phenomena in between. The word jinn (also written as jinnee, djinn, djinni, genii or genie) is derived from the Arabic root j-n-n meaning to hide or be hidden, similar to the Latin origins of the word “occult” (hidden).

In the West, occult practices are marginalized and relegated to pagan traditions or the mystical aspects of religious traditions. In Islam, however, jinn are an integral part of Islamic theology. According to the Qur’an, God created humans from clay, angels from light, and jinn from smokeless fire: “Although belief in jinn is not one of the five pillars of Islam, one can’t be Muslim if he/she doesn’t have faith in their existence. … Indeed, the Qur’anic message itself is addressed to both humans and jinn, considered the only two intelligent species on earth.”[21] While frequently described as angels and demons, jinn are actually a third category—complex, intermediary beings who, similar to humans, have free will and can embrace goodness or evil.[22] Like humans, they are required to worship God and will be judged on the Day of Judgment according to their deeds.[23]

As for how they’re used in magic.

Jinn are intrinsically intertwined with the practice of both licit Qur’anic magic and illicit black magic (sihir). Black magic is considered to be worked by those who have learned to summon evil jinn to serve them while Qur’anic magic invokes the guidance of God to exorcise the demons. Even spiritual healers with good intentions who do not employ Qur’anic healing methods can be designated as witches and sorcerers: In Saudi Arabia, only qualified individuals, usually natives designated by the religious authorities, are allowed to practice Qur’anic treatment methods; most of those arrested and beheaded for sorcery and witchcraft tend to be foreigners regardless of whether or not they were practicing Qur’anic medicine.

And remember what I was saying about politics and magic earlier? Guess what, Muslim politicians do that too.

Some leaders allude to possessing supernatural powers in order to self-aggrandize but this can also backfire. Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad told followers in 2005 that he “was surrounded by a halo of light during a speech to the U.N. General Assembly, in which the foreign leaders in the hall were transfixed, unable to blink for a half hour.”[32] But in May 2011, Ahmadinejad’s supernatural “powers” resulted in the arrests of two dozen of his aides, charged by opposing religious clerics with practicing black magic and invoking jinn. While most Western reporters scoffed at the story of imprisoned exorcists, The Wall Street Journal interviewed a renowned Iranian sorcerer, Seyed Sadigh, who claimed that dozens of Iran’s top government officials consult him on matters of national security and that he used jinn to infiltrate Israeli and U.S. intelligence agencies: “Mr. Sadigh says he doesn’t waste jinn powers on trivial matters such as love and money. Rather, he contacts jinn who can help out on matters of national security and the regime’s political stability. His regular roll call includes jinn who work for … the Mossad, and for the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency.”[33]

But waiiiit, is it just the Iranians? Heh, nope.

Mullah Omar, the Pashtun founder of the Taliban, is widely perceived as magically protected.[36] Laying claim to the Afghan tradition of charismatic mullahs with supernatural powers, Omar adopted the same strategy, removing a cloak, believed by many Afghans to having been worn by the prophet Muhammad, from a shrine in Kandahar and wearing it openly.[37] Since legend decreed that the chest holding the cloak could only be opened when touched by a true leader of the Muslims, wearing it gave him the status of an Afghan hero endowed with extraordinary mystical powers. When Kabul fell to his forces, his supernatural status was confirmed.

So not even the worst fanatics are excluded. From presidents to religious fanatics, everyone either believes in magic and has protection up or actively engages in divine/black magic to wreck your shit by sending you demons.

Whether to appease a superstitious people or out of sincerely-held belief, Pakistani president Asif Ali Zardari sacrifices a black goat nearly every day to ward off the evil eye and provide protection from black magic.[38] He, along with Ahmadinejad and Mullah Omar, understands that knowledge of local customs, jinn, and magical practices has significant political value. A superstitious population presents numerous opportunities to communicate fear, apprehension, or awe and to exert influence.

What, you thought that because those people don’t have the internet -which I believe they do because they like to post their fucking atrocities on social media- and they’re not Wiccans, they can’t wage an incredibly powerful magical war? Magically attacking any priest of a Church that holds old, medievalist traditions is equivalent with attacking a mage. Catholic priests can mostly defend, Christian Orthodox priests can defend and attack by ways that are considered holy prayers even though they’re ceremonial black magic -see rite of excommunication if you have any doubts- and Mullahs can also defend and attack by similar ways.

Are you sure you want to attack these people? Because I would choose to give strength to the Nigerian Army instead of directly attacking them without being African and knowing a little bit more about what to expect. And I probably still wouldn’t want to start a war with Muslim black magicians. Don’t be complete Western dumbfucks with something as serious as magic wars. The rest of the world has been continuously using magic since antiquity, and it’s highly likely that your sixty year old or less tradition has never faced any jinn attacks. Think, do some research and don’t jump on happy-go-lucky bandwagons when it comes to black magic and magical warfare. Those things aren’t for amateurs and as I mentioned before, even the bloody author of Psychic Self-Defense had a rough time with it.
